Kathryn Nikkel
My name is Kathryn, and I’m so excited to witness your pregnancy journey! I’ve had a lifelong interest in women’s health, which has grown into a passion for supporting birth!
My calling began with an interest in the medical side of birth, so I started working towards my BA in Health Sciences. Throughout my undergrad experience, I had the chance to work at a large urban hostpital doing newborn hearing screens and as an intern at a more rural midwifery clinic. Post-grad, I’ve also began training as a Birth Assistant! Through my diverse experience, my conviction that women should be honored during their motherhood journeys has grown. I believe all should have the knowledge and agency to make choices about their birth and bodies.
As a DONA International trained doula, it’s my goal to bring peace of mind and confidence to my clients during pregnancy, labor, and birth. Knowledge is power, and as your doula, I can help you know what questions to ask to your provider to make sure you feel heard and prepared to take on labor and birth!
I believe that bias must be left behind, and that respect is owed to everyone. The nature of birth is unpredictable, but I aim to help maintain your wishes and values regardless of the progression of your labor. Additionally, no matter where or how you choose to give birth, we can make it a beautiful and memorable experience. Whether that be a homebirth, at a birth clinic, or in the hospital; vaginal or cesarean delivery, medicated or unmedicated, a doula can ease your experience!
After the main event, postpartum keeps the fun coming! We don't forget about you, we want to make sure you’re adjusting to your new chapter in life. I want to support however you choose to feed your little one.
In my personal life, I am an avid knitter and joyful mum to a weenie dog! As a native to Minnesota, I love the snow and all things Lake Life.
